Activity Overview

With the explosion of specialty pharmaceuticals on the market, it is no surprise that services to manage patients taking specialty medications have grown exponentially in recent years. The trend has forced health care professional and payers alike to look at creative new ways to maximize patient outcomes, look at the “value” of medicines over their price, and look at balancing the drug spend with overall patient costs. As a result, specialty pharmacies have evolved with an increased focus on determining which services lead to optimal outcomes, and how and where those services are best delivered. How has the expansion and evolution of specialty pharmacy services affected payers? How are payers keeping up with the rapid growth in this area? What lessons have we learned?

This session will provide a historical perspective on the evolution of specialty pharmacy services and provide a look at potential future trends. You will hear from a payer who will share how they are handling the rapid expansion of specialty pharmacy services.
