Activity Overview

Health Information Technology (Health IT) is the engine that supports electronic prescribing, MTM programs, health information exchanges and many ancillary programs, such as those related to specialty pharmacy. Although most of the Health IT related expansion occurring at the state and federal levels focuses on providers, managed care pharmacy will be profoundly affected as well.

This session will provide attendees with an overview of how Health IT functions within day-to-day operations. Faculty will discuss data sources and information flows, new governance and financial models, clinical programs and messaging, and the opportunities available for member and provider engagement.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1.  Identify the types of data sources and information flows.
  2.  Discuss the impact of new governance and financial models.
  3.  Describe how and where Health IT can be used to support clinical and member engagement programs.
