Activity Overview

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a condition in which the liver becomes inflamed from fat build-up, is associated with significant medical costs and is predicted to surpass Hepatitis C as the leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation.  Furthermore, NASH is associated with significant cardiovascular and renal morbidity. As a result, manufacturers are investing in the NASH market with several pipeline agents in development. Payers will face challenges in managing utilization and preparing for the financial impact of these agents.

This session will present the current landscape and challenges in managing drug utilization and spend in NASH, and the clinical evidence and modeled budget impact for the pipeline agents.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify at least two pipeline agents currently under development for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
  2. Discuss potential management strategies for NASH pipeline agents.
  3. Describe the potential budgetary impact of NASH pipeline agents.
  4. Identify at least three factors that may impact utilization and uptake of NASH pipeline agents.
