Activity Overview

Medication synchronization (med sync) programs increasingly are touted as an effective strategy for improving medication adherence and persistence among patients who manage multiple chronic conditions. By aligning prescription refills to a common monthly or quarterly date, med sync programs eliminate the burden of frequent pharmacy visits—a central contributor to on adherence. How much of an impact are these programs really having? Is enhanced patient convenience translating into improved Medicare Star ratings or clinical outcomes?

This session will review the current status of med sync programs and explore opportunities and challenges for managed care organizations.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize features and innovations that contribute to the success of medication synchronization programs.
  2. Discuss what is known about the impact of existing med sync programs on adherence and clinical outcomes.
  3. Review the current status of legislative and regulatory requirements for med sync programs.
