Activity Overview

Big data is getting even bigger as health care stakeholders gain greater access to better quality and larger quantities of patient information. In particular, predictive analytics increasingly is being employed by managed care organizations to identify high-risk patients. How can payers take this one step further and make these insights actionable? What kinds of interventions can payers make based off of this data?

This session will discuss how payers can identify patient predictors and employ best practices in predictive analytics to improve health outcomes and quality of care. Case studies will feature different predictive models in opioid abuse, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and medication adherence.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Explain how payers can identify appropriate patient predictors or risk factors for specific outcomes.
  2. Discuss best practices for the application of predictive analytics at health plans and PBMs.
  3. Discuss the outcomes observed from the utilization of predictive analytics in the real world.
