Activity Overview

Boosting carbon efficiency, developing human resources apps and picking stocks are just a few of the places where behavioral economics is being leveraged to drive better outcomes. Today, one can add managed care pharmacy to this running list of applications. Using psychological, social, cognitive and emotional factors, payers can now better understand the financial decision-making of patients as they select plans and providers, or implement certain types of healthy behaviors.

This session will explore patient decision making and the role of behavioral economics on health behavior.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Explain how decision-making errors and other impediments impact behavior and decision-making.
  2. Describe how tools developed in behavioral economics can help mitigate these behavioral biases and constraints.
  3. Describe how behavioral economics is used to impact adherence and population health management in a health plan/managed pharmacy setting.
