Target Audience: Pharmacists who practice in managed care settings.
Smart phones, wearable health trackers, and other wearable technologies are all being used to improve patient health. But questions remain—are these resources helping? Are patients able to better manage their health with these devices? When do these technologies cross over from being simple aids to being regulated as medical devices? Where is the threshold that an app or device crosses that will dictate it must undergofull evaluation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)?
Join this session to learn about the new technologies available for patients, the process these devices and apps go through to be approved by the FDA, and how these technologies may impact managed
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Define key concepts and terms for Mobile Health (mHealth).
2. Identify at least two mHealth technologies available for patients and their applications within health care.
3. Discuss the impact mHealth is having on patient outcomes.
4. Review the FDA drug approval process for mHealth technology.
5. Summarize the opportunities and challenges of implementing mHealth for managed care.
Schedule of Educational Activity
This activity consists of an audio recording, pre-test assessment questions (not required to pass or continue), post-test questions (required to pass with a score of 70% or higher) and a specific activity evaluation.
