The Immuno-Oncology Pipeline and the Managed Care Considerations
Cancer has been described in medicine for centuries, so why is there not a cure for it yet? The answer is uncertain, but new research into immunotherapy is showing progress in increasing remission rates of cancer patients. Our immune systems are evolutionarily designed to ward off cancers, but sometimes they do not recognize cancer cells as foreign and/or altered, which is when cancers can grow and metastasize. But what if our immune systems had some help with this detection? This is the aim of immuno-oncology medications.
This program will delve into the different types of immuno-oncology treatments available and how they work, as well as immuno-oncology therapies in the pipeline, and the managed care considerations for these new treatment options.
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe immuno-oncology and the different types of immuno-oncology treatments.
- Identify immuno-oncology treatments that are likely to be approved in the next 12 months.
- Discuss the mechanism of action, indications, efficacy, and safety of new and emerging immuno-oncology treatments.
- Report the likely effect of new immuno-oncology treatments on the managed care market.
