Activity Overview

The performance measure, Use of High-Risk Medications in the Elderly (HRM), was among the ­ first triple-weighted measures used to calculate the CMS Star Rating for Medicare plans. How did health plans gear up to collect the data needed to assess performance on this measure? What were the biggest challenges associated with implementation? What interventions emerged as best practices for improving performance, and what were the tangible outcomes? In this session, quality experts from an integrated health plan (Kaiser) and a traditional health plan (Aetna) will share their experiences in taking a medication use performance measure from initial release to real-world application.

Learning Objectives:  

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1. Explain how health plans prepare to address new medication use performance measures.

2. Discuss successes and challenges experienced while implementing the performance measure,  Use of High-Risk Medications in the Elderly.

3. Describe the impact of the Use of High-Risk Medications in the Elderly performance measure on patient outcomes. 

Schedule of Educational Activity

This activity consists of an audio recording, pre-test assessment questions (not required to pass or continue), post-test questions (required to pass with a score of 70% or higher) and a specific activity evaluation.
