What becomes possible when you link epidemiologic data to health insurance claims data? That’s one of the many innovative questions being explored at the Hutchinson Institute for Cancer Outcomes Research (HICOR). The HICOR IQ oncology informatics platform integrates cancer registry data (from the Cancer Surveillance System, part of the National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results [SEER] program) and enrollment and claims data from two large regional commercial insurers that cover more than 2.5 million lives. The goal is to enable performance reporting in oncology as a first step in guiding improvements that increase value in cancer care. This session will provide an overview of HICOR IQ and the related HICOR initiatives focused on promoting consistency, cost-effectiveness, and better outcomes of cancer treatment. Through a series of illustrative case studies, you will discover what becomes possible when you can track the patient experience more completely and identify areas for targeted intervention.
