Activity overview

As the U.S. health care system evolves from a volume-driven system to one that rewards value, there is a growing interest in value-based payment arrangements. However, value-based agreements (VBAs), which tie biopharmaceutical coverage and reimbursement levels to their real-world performance, still appear to be relatively rare in the U.S. Is this because few are publicly known, or are there significant barriers standing in the way of their implementation?

This session will provide perspective on the status of VBAs, as well as the challenges standing in the way of broader adoption and implementation.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1.    Identify the barriers to implementing value-based contracts.
  2.    Discuss the feasibility and value to both manufacturers and payers as per current practices and trends in establishing value-based contracts.
  3.    Discuss the outcomes and lessons learned from a payer in overcoming barriers and implementing a value-based contract.
  4.    Discuss the current landscape of value-based contracts, as well as the emerging innovations.
