Payers face significant and growing costs with oncology treatments. Real-world evidence, such as real-world observational studies, patient-reported outcomes, and economic models, can potentially help payers in their coverage and formulary decision-making. Typically, only economic modeling studies are available at launch and observational studies and patient-reported outcomes are only available after a year or more, if at all.
In this session, participants will learn the types of real-world evidence used by payers and how that data is incorporated into their decision-making, identify any real-world evidence currently being generated by payer organizations, and examine which economic models are deemed most useful to payers. In addition, this session will highlight the results of national payer surveys designed to reveal payer usage of real-world evidence in oncology decision-making.
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe types and use of real-world evidence in managed care pharmacy.
- Identify real-world evidence used in Oncology practice and how it is being applied to practice-based decisions.
- Discuss how specific types of real-world evidence for Oncology are being used by payers for formulary decision-making.
