Medicare Part D: Past, Present and Future

It has been 16 years since the Medicare Part D benefit has been implemented and quite a bit has changed in the world since its inception. In this interactive session, the faculty will field questions about what it was like to implement Part D inside of CMS and what operational and compliance challenges the industry is dealing with today. In addition, the faculty will discuss where they think the Medicare Part D benefit is moving in the future and how plans, pharmacy benefit management companies and the pharmaceutical industry should be prepared.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Describe the challenges that CMS staff faced when implementing the Medicare Part D benefit.
  • Describe the current ongoing challenges that Medicare plans with Part D endure today.
  • List the potential changes to the Medicare Part D benefit that may occur given the financial and political pressures of today.
