New mAbs on the Block: A Rocking Research Update on Biosimilar Uptake and Benefit Design Strategies in the United States

Course Description:

Despite 20 biosimilar launches and almost 30 approvals in the United States, there are still challenges to biosimilar adoption among a variety of stakeholders across the health care continuum. The regulatory environment is frequently a part of this biosimilar market discussion. Recent research surveying managed care and specialty pharmacy professionals provides insight to perceptions of barriers to biosimilar adoption and to identify preferences, policies, and strategies for biosimilar use across organizations. Is it time to rock with the new mAbs on the block?

During this session, faculty will provide an update on the biosimilar landscape from a pipeline and regulatory perspective, share key findings from their primary research, and provide a framework for leveraging biosimilars in utilization management and benefit design.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  1. Describe the therapeutic areas, pipeline, and regulatory environment affecting the biosimilar landscape in the United States.
  2. Report results of current research on barriers to biosimilar adoption and impact of benefit design and formulary policies on utilization.
  3. Discuss prospective payer management strategies in anticipation of market entry of pharmacy benefit biosimilars.
