Shifting the Scales: Focus on Obesity and Managed Care Considerations
Pricing: Free for Members and $30 for Non-Members
Course Description
Obesity has become a major public health concern in the United States, with a prevalence of 41.9% (2017) in adults and 19.7% (2020) in youth. There has been an increase in anti-obesity medication usage as patients have more therapy options, and new medications have greater efficacy and are generally more well tolerated. Increases in off-label weight loss usage of medications, particularly GLP-1 products, have created much discussion over the use of these products, their place in therapy, and how they are causing shifts across the industry.
This session will cover efficacy and safety comparisons of both medications with off-label weight loss usage and anti-obesity medications, the impact of increased off-label usage of GLP-1 products, and aspects of formulary decision-making regarding anti-obesity medications.
Target Audience
Pharmacists who practice in managed care settings.
