The development and implementation of mandatory drug wastage programs introduces a novel way to manage drug wastage. Mandatory drug wastage programs shift the paradigm away from the standard voluntary drug wastage programs and can lead to drastic increases in savings with minimal impact on patient outcomes and provider prescribing practices. This session highlights the development and implementation of a mandatory drug wastage program with active collaboration with health systems and discusses the results of the pilot program and future steps for scalability.
