Program Description
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s (CMMI) Cell and Gene Therapy Access Model. Participants will examine the goals, structures, and potential impact of this model on patient access to innovative therapies from a state-payer perspective.
The course will also cover the process of preparing and administering cell and gene therapies, offering insights from both patient and caregiver perspectives. The patient journey for cell and gene therapies is often complex and multifaceted. Patients and caregivers face numerous challenges, including navigating the preparation and administration of therapies, managing side effects, and coordinating care across multiple healthcare providers.
Target Audience
This knowledge-based activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists in managed care settings.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Examine the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation's (CMMI) Cell and Gene Therapy Access Model, including its goals, structures, and potential impact on patient access to innovative therapies from a state-payer perspective.
- Recognize the process of preparing and administering cell and gene therapies from a patient and caregiver perspective.
- Discuss insights from a real-world example of collaboration between a patient advocate and a state Medicaid agency, including successes, challenges, and lessons learned in ensuring access to cell and gene therapies.
