Program Description
Migraine is a complex, chronic disease that results in significant patient and economic burden. Migraine ranks second worldwide in terms of years lost due to disability. Direct annual all cause healthcare costs for a migraine patient are over twice that of a non-migraine patient. Indirect costs from the impact of the disease on a patient’s ability to function (absenteeism and presenteeism) total over $35B annually.
Given this impact , one of the primary goals of acute treatment of migraine is rapid and consistent freedom from pain and associated symptoms without recurrence. Regardless of migraine frequency or time of month, it is important that every appropriate person with migraine be offered a migraine-specific treatment.
Notably, over 50% of females with migraine disease experience migraine attacks during the perimenstrual period, which can be more severe, and longer-lasting than those occurring at other times of the month.
The objective for this webinar is to review the migraine disease state and outline the clinical data for an acute treatment of migraine including data for perimenstrual attacks.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the complexity of migraine disease and the burden of the disease as it relates to function.
- Discuss an acute treatment option for migraine in adults.
