Program Description
Payers are keenly interested in including real-world evidence (RWE) generated from real-world data (RWD) in their formulary decision processes. However, they lack experience in evaluating and applying RWE, are unsure how or where to get relevant RWE studies and note the lack of standards particular to payer needs as major barriers in using RWE.
In 2024, the AMCP Research Institute launched the RWE Initiative to develop RWE standards that will facilitate efficient communication and ensure that RWE meets expectations and needs of formulary decision-makers. Through an iterative process, we developed standards relevant to both RWE producers (e.g., manufacturers) and users (e.g., payers), including a framework describing how different RWE types apply at different drug lifecycle stages, and a checklist to guide study design and standardized payer RWE evaluation.
In this webinar, three speakers will engage in an interactive panel to discuss the importance and relevance of RWE, to describe the multi-stakeholder process for developing the standards through expert consensus, insights on how to apply the standards, and describe ongoing efforts to build a training program to support adoption of RWE in managed care.
