Program Description

Psoriasis is more than a skin disease. It is a chronic, inflammatory, immunologic condition that primarily manifests on the skin, the body's largest organ. If not properly treated, uncontrolled psoriasis can induce inflammatory processes beyond the skin and may lead to comorbid disease. Comorbidities that may impact psoriasis patients such as psoriatic arthritis (PsA), cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), depression and others add burden to the entire healthcare system and adversely impact patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the pathophysiology and epidemiology of psoriasis (PsO) and the interrelationship of the inflammatory pathways associated with comorbidities beyond the skin.
  • Understand the PsO-related physical (e.g., PsA, IBD, CV disease) and psychological (e.g., depression) comorbidities.
  • Understand the benefits to payers and patients by achieving and maintaining treatment targets for PsO.
  • Describe the clinical rationale for early use of advanced systemic therapies in moderate to severe psoriasis patients.
