Innovations in Lipid Management: Integrating Emerging and Pipeline Therapies

Program Description
The therapeutic landscape for dyslipidemia is rapidly evolving, with recently approved agents and a robust pipeline of novel medications targeting LDL-C, triglycerides, Lp(a), and cardiovascular risk reduction. This session examines key updates from the 2026 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Management of Dyslipidemia and provides a comprehensive overview of newly FDA-approved therapies—including APOC3-targeted agents for familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) and severe hypertriglyceridemia (SHTG), and PCSK9 inhibitors—alongside emerging late-stage pipeline medications such as oral PCSK9 inhibitors, CETP inhibitors, and Lp(a)-lowering therapies. Participants will compare the latest clinical evidence across these innovations and explore their implications for formulary decisions, utilization management strategies, patient access, and cost considerations.
This session equips managed care professionals with the clinical and economic insights needed to evaluate and integrate next-generation lipid management therapies into evidence-based coverage frameworks.

As the head of Clinical Pharmacy at IPD Analytics for the last 10 years, Jeff is responsible for development of drug and drug-class management strategies for managed care, health systems, and pharmaceutical manufacturers, with a focus on drug loss of exclusivity and biosimilar launches. Prior to working at IPD Analytics, Jeff served as Director of Pharmacy Services at ConnectiCare, a regional health plan in Connecticut for 16 years, Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut, and Clinical Pharmacy Manager for WellPoint Pharmacy Management. Jeff is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, and earned his Master of Science degree in Healthcare Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Hartford. Shanelle Scales, PharmD

Shanelle has more than 15 years of experience in managed care and clinical pharmacy, specializing in Medicare and commercial pharmacy benefit strategy. She has extensive expertise in designing and optimizing high-quality, cost-effective pharmacy and medical benefits, with a focus on Medicare Part D and Part B, regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and STAR Ratings performance.
Prior to joining IPD Analytics, Shanelle held senior clinical leadership roles at OptumRx, UnitedHealthcare, and Healthcare Service Corporation (Blue Cross Blue Shield), where she led formulary strategy, utilization management, and clinical program oversight. She is recognized for translating complex clinical and financial data into actionable insights for executive stakeholders, drawing on her combined experience in payer strategy and direct patient care to provide a comprehensive perspective on the evolving pharmacy benefit landscape.
Shanelle earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy, where she was inducted into academic and leadership honor societies. She also holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from Trident University.
