Pricing: Free for members and non-members
This program was supported by a grant from Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc.
Course Description:
Sickle cell disease is considered an orphan disease, affecting approximately 100,000 individuals in the U.S., yet the most prevalent and well-known inherited disease disproportionately affecting the Black population. Vaso-occlusive episodes characteristic of the genetic sickle cell mutation lead to multiple organ damage and cardiac events contributing to complex care needs and early life expectancy. Racial health disparities in the sickle cell community add to poor health outcomes. Treatment advances are emerging yet barriers to access contribute to underutilization, and more options in the pipeline are anticipated to be costly.
This session will focus on the complications of sickle cell disease particularly in the adult population, advances in current treatment options, anticipated pipeline therapies, and formulary strategies to address racial health disparities.
Target Audience
Pharmacists who practice in managed care settings.
