Course Description

The low prevalence associated with rare diseases presents distinctive challenges for managed care professionals. Considering the evolving therapeutic options for rare diseases and the critical role the patient journey plays in formulary decision-making, this program will spotlight two distinct diseases – Sickle Cell Disease and Hemophilia – to highlight unique aspects of the patient journey in relation to treatment advances. By examining the burden of disease, unmet needs, and managed care considerations across these conditions, this session aims to enhance managed care pharmacy knowledge and confidence in understanding the patient perspective, identifying treatment gaps, and navigating the latest management strategies.

Pharmacists who practice in managed care settings.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define the clinical, economic, and healthcare resource utilization burden of Sickle Cell Disease and Hemophilia.
  2. Summarize the current landscape and future trends of therapies for Sickle Cell Disease and Hemophilia.
  3. Examine the patient's journey and perspective on Sickle Cell Disease and Hemophilia treatment value, share decision-making, and access to care.
  4. Discuss managed care considerations to incorporate the patient value and access to innovative therapies into managed care decision-making for improved health outcomes.
