[eLD 1] Advancing Precision Medicine in Breast Cancer: Targeted Therapies and the Role of Managed Care Pharmacy
Overview
Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 11am ET Pricing: Free for Members and Non-Members
Program Description
Precision medicine is transforming the landscape of breast cancer care by enabling treatment strategies tailored to the molecular characteristics of each patient's tumor. This session will explore the impact that early biomarker testing and screening may have on breast cancer treatment efficacy, patient outcomes, and minimizing unnecessary side effects. In addition, faculty will highlight how managed care pharmacists are incorporated throughout the patient journey, from addressing reimbursement challenges, participating in molecular tumor boards (MTBs), and improving access to biomarker-driven treatments through formulary management and value-based contracting. Through a combination of clinical insights and managed care perspectives, attendees will learn how to support the integration of precision medicine into earlier lines of treatment and optimize the delivery of care for breast cancer patients.
Target Audience
This knowledge-based activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists in managed care settings.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Define the role of genomic profiling and molecular subtyping in breast cancer classification, treatment decision-making, and personalized therapy approaches to optimize patient outcomes.
- Recognize how novel breast cancer therapies can further enhance treatment efficacy, minimize adverse effects, and improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients.
- Discuss the interdisciplinary efforts required in managed care pharmacy, including participation in molecular tumor boards (MTBs), reimbursement strategies, and accessibility improvements to achieve widespread implementation of precision medicine in breast cancer care.
Commercial Support
This activity is supported by an independent medical education grant from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Daiichi Sankyo, and Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC, a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
