11-12pm ET
[eLD 1] Advancing Precision Medicine in Breast Cancer: Targeted Therapies and the Role of Managed Care Pharmacy
This activity is supported by an independent medical education grant from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Daiichi Sankyo, and Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC, a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
Precision medicine is transforming the landscape of breast cancer care by enabling treatment strategies tailored to the molecular characteristics of each patient's tumor. This session will explore the impact that early biomarker testing and screening may have on breast cancer treatment efficacy, patient outcomes, and minimizing unnecessary side effects. In addition, faculty will highlight how managed care pharmacists are incorporated throughout the patient journey, from addressing reimbursement challenges, participating in molecular tumor boards (MTBs), and improving access to biomarker-driven treatments through formulary management and value-based contracting. Through a combination of clinical insights and managed care perspectives, attendees will learn how to support the integration of precision medicine into earlier lines of treatment and optimize the delivery of care for breast cancer patients.
1-2pm ET
[eLD 2] Preventative Health in Action: Advancing Shingles Vaccination in Special Populations
This activity is supported by an independent medical education grant from GSK.
Herpes zoster, also known as shingles, remains a significant public health concern in the United States, particularly among aging and immunocompromised populations. Each year, approximately one in three Americans will develop shingles. The risk increases substantially after age 50.
As healthcare shifts toward a value-based and preventative care model, managed care pharmacists have a critical opportunity to improve vaccination rates through benefit design, care coordination, and patient engagement strategies. This education session will provide pharmacists with updated knowledge on the prevalence and burden of shingles, current immunization guidelines, and equip them with actionable managed care strategies to promote equitable access and affordability.
5-6pm ET Satellite Symposium
Leveraging the Latest Treatment Updates to Advance Managed Care Decision-Making in Eosinophilic Esophagitis: A 'Mock P&T' Initiative to Unlock the Potential of Novel Therapies
Sponsored and presented by PRIME Education, LLC, separate registration required, click here to register.
This activity is supported by an educational grant from Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc.
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory condition that significantly impacts patient health, psychosocial well-being, and quality of life. This condition is also associated with a substantial economic burden, with an estimated healthcare cost of $1.32 billion in 2024 dollars after accounting for inflation. Historically, management of EoE has relied on patient adherence to restrictive dietary regimens and/or off-label use of pharmacologic agents developed for other indications. Fortunately, advances in clinical research have led to the development and FDA approvals of new EoE-specific therapies and the subsequent publication of updated clinical guidelines. With this rapidly evolving landscape, managed care professionals are challenged to stay up to date with the latest clinical data to support evidence-based patient selection and formulary design to optimize quality care and outcomes for patients with EoE. Inadequate payer knowledge of the latest therapeutic approvals and clinical evidence can lead to restrictive payer policies that derail appropriate access to newer therapies. Timely education is needed for managed care professionals so they may close the gaps in unmet treatment needs for patients with EoE. By equipping managed care professionals with evidence-based educational support, payers in these key decision-making roles can champion improved access to treatment modalities that advance quality care and optimize clinical outcomes for patients with EoE.
